50mm Lens Meetup

50mm Lens Meetup

Saturday 11 May
Downtown Jacksonville - 4pm - 2 Hours
Kimberly Halbrook
The 50mm lens is one of the flexible and useful lenses in any photographer’s gear bag. It is neither a wide-angle or telephoto lens, but allows the camera to see on the same scale as your eye. As such, it can be used for a variety of styles, from landscape and street photography to portrait and product photography. In this meetup, we’ll review the basic camera settings. We’ll then cover some of the advantages of shooting with a prime lens, and some basic techniques to using the 50mm lens. As always, there will be ample opportunities for you to put your new knowledge into practice.

Kimberly was very helpful and provided advice on camera settings and places to move to get the best shots. While we were waiting for the sunset, she talked with us and answered questions on different camera features. She also provided some helpful tips on street photography.

    PHOTOGRAPHERS
    Kimberly Halbrook
Kimberly has been a photographer since the age of 14, beginning with her dad's 35mm SLR camera. It wasn't long before she started shooting film with full manual settings. Soon afterwards she started shooting with DSLR cameras. In her college years, she went on to developing her own rolls of film and producing prints in the dark room. During her studies, she took black & white film art photography classes, expanding her knowledge of camera techniques and creativity. Recently she has been sticking to shooting with her mirrorless camera. She enjoys teaching classes to those who aspire to broaden their photography skills and network with other photographers.

Capturing the Friendship Fountain in Jacksonville through my lens was a special moment, marking my first-ever photo shoot of this iconic landmark despite having called Jacksonville home for over 30 years. It felt like discovering a hidden gem in my own backyard. The night added a unique dimension to the experience, with the clear sky providing a perfect canvas for the fountain's enchanting display. As I framed the shot against the backdrop of the Main Street Bridge and the city skyline, it dawne

Well I love WWII history and photography, so thats my interpretation. My model is a friend of mine, Laur Lo, who does allot of mid century pinup work. I was able to put together an authentic WWII Army Air Corp uniform for her to wear for my session. She is posing along side a WWII T-6 Texan. My exposure: Nikon D3s, 85mm 1.7 lens, ISO 200, 1/250th at f16, (1) Q-flash, camera left set at full power. Editing: Just added a little HDR to enhance my colors.

Title or Location: "Days of Heaven" / Downtown Savannah
We went to Savannah for a short visit over the MLK holiday. The idea was to take my mother and sister-in-law to see the city. I also wanted to try to take some pictures. I limited myself to make it easier to carry, I took only a Sony A7rIV with a manual 35mm f2 Loxia Zeiss lens and an Olympus OM2n film camera with a 50mm f1.4 Zuiko lens, loaded with 100D color negative film. On that day, one of my sons was not feeling well and had a fever. So I stayed in the hotel room and watched him and the do

The middle Bald Eagle in the photo had just picked up a fish and was being stalked by the other adult, ( bottom left ) and the Juvenile Bald Eagle to the upper right. I caused the center adult bald eagle to drop the fish un aware to the other 2, and the fish can be seen falling away down the center of the photograph.

Title or Location: Great Wheel, Seattle Washington
This photo is from early in my photography journey. I attended one of my first Seattle-based photography meet-ups and after the meet and greets, we split into small groups to find some compositions. I had been playing around with long exposures and light trails and the bright lights from the Great Wheel caught my eye. I spent a good amount of time that evening making new relationships and capturing this image.
