Architecture Photography

Saturday 21 September
Downtown, Jacksonville - 5pm - 2 Hours
Kimberly Halbrook
Architectural photography can be a great way of exploring and documenting a city, whether it's your home or on holiday. Its about capturing not only the design and accurate representation of a building, but to have the shots be aesthetically pleasing to the viewer's eye. An architectural photographer makes pictures, not takes pictures.

In this session, we will be covering how to better understand Architecture photography and we'll be looking at ways to take some impressive shots and the camera settings to use.

Kimberly has been a photographer since the age of 14, beginning with her dad's 35mm SLR camera. It wasn't long before she started shooting film with full manual settings. Soon afterwards she started shooting with DSLR cameras. In her college years, she went on to developing her own rolls of film and producing prints in the dark room. During her studies, she took black & white film art photography classes, expanding her knowledge of camera techniques and creativity. Recently she has been sticking to shooting with her mirrorless camera. She enjoys teaching classes to those who aspire to broaden their photography skills and network with other photographers.

This was captured at the second jetty at Marineland beach. After moving from another location I felt the sunrise and would best be shot at this angle for a 30 second long exposure. As with all my pictures, this was taken on a Nikon D850, with a Nikkor 16/35 F4 lens. For this type of shot I generally shoot at F8, with my ISO at64 .All post processing it done in a combination of Photoshop and Skylum's Luminar Neo software.

To my surprise, my primary objective that evening wasn't to capture the spectacular launch of the Falcon Nine. Unaware of its scheduled occurrence, I had no intention of documenting it. Instead, accompanied by a few companions, I ventured to Spoonbill Pond with the aim of capturing the awe-inspiring sight of the Milky Way. Originally slated for 2 a.m., the launch time coincided with the successful achievement of our initial goal. Convincing one of my friends to linger for the 5 a.m. (I received

I couldn't wait for the Milky Way at this location due to high bear activity it was almost dark by the time I hiked back to the car. The Milky Way picture is a stack of 19 frames for noise reduction, taken a few hours later over Lake Tahoe, which is just a few miles away from the falls.Edited in Luminar Neo.

This shot was taken on my first day into this trip. My wife and I decided to spend Labor Day weekend in the mountains which was wonderful but also very busy which isn't the best for wildlife photography. However, I did come away with some good shots from my outing (mostly landscape) and this is by far one of my favorite. I love how the light is striking the deer's face while he is mostly shrouded in shadow. I took this with a Nikon 200-500mm @ 500, 1/160s, ISO 100 and f6.3. I shot this across th

Was out looking for anything to photograph on one my few days off from work. So I went to the plot of land where I deer hunt. Any wild flower that may still be in bloom, insects, things like that. Tons of grasshoppers everywhere and I came across this fella. I didn't realize he possibly had a wounded left wing until I processed the photos. No wonder he sat thru many different angles, exposures, and me getting up in his face and didn't offer to fly off.
